Currently Brampton's primary east-west transit service is the Züm 501 bus service which largely doesn't have its own right of way. The GTA Transit 2050 Plan calls for this route to become an LRT in its own right-of-way with signal priority allowing for smooth, electric, efficient transportation to Brampton Centre and Vaughan Valley where connections to much improved services can be made.
This plan seeks to have the line built in a single phase, opening by 2045 at which time Brampton Centre would already have frequent connections on surface rail to Kitchener, Pearson, and Downtown Toronto, and the Line 10 LRT southbound to Mississauga Centre and Port Credit. At Vaughan Valley, the Bramalea Line would allow connections to Line 3, the Ontario Line, with service to Malton, Pearson, and Etobicoke, and eastbound to Vaughan Centre, Richmond Hill, and Markham.
Data from traffic studies, Züm 501 bus service evaluations, and evaluations of intersections with a focus on pedestrian safety and comfort would determine which intersections may require an underpasses and underground stations similar to the Don Crossing station on Line 5 at Eglinton and Don Mills. The combination of an isolated right-of-way, underpasses at key locations, and improved station/stop facilities to support comfort in inclement weather would greatly enhance the customer experience along the line.
